So you’ve become the first champion of Alola, congratulations! Now that you’ve finished the epic story, what else is there to do? Plenty, depending on how much of a completionist you are. This post is a simple list of things you can do/get ready for post-game.
Abra Eugenics Inc.
Before anything else, you’ll want to catch a female and male Abra, which can be found in Hau’oli City (grass areas behind fences). The reason is because Abra has the ability Synchronization, which gives you greater control over what Nature a wild (as well as gifted) Pokemon will have when you encounter them. This is most useful when chaining Pokemon and catching the legendaries. For example, when we have an Abra (or Kadabra, or Alakazam) with a Modest Nature in the first slot of our party and we initiate a fight against Lunala, there’s a 50/50 chance that when we catch Lunala its Nature will also be Modest, which helps out its stats. We want a female and male pair in order to breed a horde of Abras with various Natures. ALSO: there is an important NPC that will give us something valuable only after we hatch twenty eggs, so why not kill two birds with one stone?
Catching the Ultra Beasts
After beating the game an old man will tell you to go to the motel on route 8. This will trigger a quest that will give you a chance to level up your Pokemon and to catch the Ultra Beasts (legendaries). Don’t forget to battle Faba (standing on the first floor by the big doorway) when you stop by the Aether foundation.
Also, you’ll want to have your Synchronize Abras/Kadabras/Alakazams in the first slot of your party, provided they have synchronize. This way you have greater control over what Natures the Ultra Beasts have when you catch them, and you can simply soft reset if you don’t get the one you want.
For the purposes of completing your Pokedex, you can get your own Cosmog (Nebby) postgame. Have Solgaleo/Lunala (whichever version you got) in your party, fly to the Altar of the Sunne/Moone on Poni Island. Go up the loooong stairs and you’ll see a portal. If you’re playing Pokemon Sun go there during the night; if you’re playing Pokemon Moone, go there during the day. This portal merely alters the game time to twelve hours ahead, allowing you to transform the game world from day to night and vice versa at will. Once you’re through, head to the Lake of the Sunne/Moone on Ula’ula Island and continue forward to get Cosmog. The idea is either to give Cosmoem to a friend with the opposite version so that you can get Solgaleo or Lunala. If you decide to level up Cosmoem in your version, you can trade your second Solgaleo/Lunala on GTS in Festival Plaza for the other legendary (but good luck with that one; people on GTS are idiots).
After completing the Ultra Beasts missions, you can head to Ten Carat Hill (go past the cave) and Necrozma will be waiting for you in the grass. Use Max Repels in order to avoid all the other Pokemon, and don’t forget to bring your synchronized spoon-mon!
Battle the Eeveelution Trainers
Go back to Royal Avenue on Akala Island. To the right of the Battle Royale stadium is a Thrifty Megamart. Talk to the left-most cashier to initiate the quest. Here are the locations of the eight Eeveelution trainers:
-Third floor of Pokemon Trainer’s School on Melemele Island. Top of the stairs, woman in the green dress.
-Route 2’s Hau’oli Cemetary. Top left corner.
-Iki Town, where you had your first Grand Trial against the Kahuna. House on the left, woman in green dress.
-Far end of Hano Beach on Akala Island
-Heahea City, when you first came to Akala Island. Inside the big hotel, left of the reception desk.
-Ula’ula Island, Malie City’s community centre. She’s sitting on the couch by the windows.
-South-Eastern side of the same island, inside the power plant. He’s sitting in front of the television.
-Poni Island’s Seafolk village. Talk to the kid in the Steelix boat (dang, this quest was pretty depressing).
After you beat them all, head back to the cashier at the Thrifty Megamart.
Fly to Poni Island Coast and you will find a pair of maidens in distress. Beat them in a Pokemon battle!
Battle: Principal Asuka
Go back to the Pokemon Trainer School and head for the top floor. There will be a black belt guarding a door. Beat him, then head inside and beat the principal.
Battle: Game Freak Morimoto
Fly to Heahea City on Akala Island. Head east and go into the first building with a door. On the second floor you can battle the “veteran”, who is in fact one of the designers who programmed the Pokemon games! (after you beat him he’ll also enable you to gets eggs more frequently at the day care)
He’s waiting inside the house across from the motel on Route 2. (TM87 Swagger is available in the room at the back)
Places to Use Machamp
-Ten Carat Hill Cave
-Various ruins (where you’ll also go to get the four Tapus)
